Almunge School, Uppsala 2017
When we visited Uppsala University we found the past meeting the present .
At the Gustavianum we were shown some old astronomical instruments and listened to a lecture on the origin of the natural sciences in Sweden and in particular in Uppsala which still is a center for research of international renown.
We then changed our focus and visited a department where programming is the center of attention. We were taught the basics and also tried to program small robots.
We had a really exciting visit to the multinational company GE Healthcare which is based in Uppsala. No photographing was allowed there since the research they did is meant to be kept secret. Among other things we visited the laboratory and saw protein synthesis being performed.
Finally we also visited the work shop for 3-D printing where they made things from small plastic parts to heavy pieces of metal.
Some of us were allowed to try our hands at it as well!
